This is the longest stretch of Hadrian’s Wall with extensive remains of the Roman fort. You can view walls and gates, granaries, parade block, and the longest continuous stretch of the Wall standing at over 2m high. There are milecastles, turrets, a river crossing and evidence of the turf wall that preceded the stone building of Hadrian’s Wall. Troops from Romania and Bulgaria were stationed here. The visitor centre provides an interesting display about the story of the fort and its local landscape.
